Biography

Mechanical Engineer, with Stara Glass since 2007, Ernesto Cattaneo specializes in the mathematical modeling and simulation of glass furnaces, combined with extensive expertise in data detection and field operations. He is the company head of innovation department, with a steadfast commitment to pioneering decarbonization strategies and advancing technological transformation across the glass industry.

Presentation

The LIFE SUGAR project aims at demonstrating that hydrogen production by steam reforming is a viable way for extensive heat recovery in energy intensive sectors like glass production. After demonstrating the solution in lab-scale, we are finally ready to share the first industrial test results, from the pilot installation in the Vetrerie Meridionali plant of Castellana Grotte (Bari, Italy). The final technology aims at a >15% energy saving and reduction of the carbon footprint of glass production.
